Quick answer

Definitive Edition adds two areas, the Dash and Light Burst abilities, more story, multiple difficulty modes, backtracking support and Spirit Well fast travel. Steam says the original version is no longer available for direct purchase there. GAMIVO lists separate Steam keys for the original and Definitive editions; choose the exact edition you want, not whichever title happens to be cheaper.

What does Definitive Edition actually add?

Both versions tell Ori's story in the forest of Nibel, but they are separate Steam apps and separate key listings. Steam's Definitive page specifically names two new areas exploring Naru's past, Dash and Light Burst abilities, more story sequences, multiple difficulty modes, backtracking support and travel between Spirit Wells. Those are concrete additions, not just a remastered label.

For a first-time buyer, the added navigation and difficulty options are more consequential than a generic 'complete' badge: they affect how you move through and revisit the world. We have not played both builds side by side for this guide, so this comparison describes published edition features rather than judging which feels better in play.

Can you still buy the original?

Steam's original-game page says that version is no longer available for direct purchase there and points to Definitive Edition. That is not the same as saying every existing original-game key is invalid. GAMIVO continues to list a separate PC Steam key labelled as the original Standard Edition; its exact account eligibility and activation outcome are merchant and Steam-account questions to check before paying.

Steam says a direct purchase of Definitive Edition from its own store includes a free copy of the original game if you do not own it. Do not assume a third-party Definitive key carries that same store-purchase promotion unless the exact seller states it. The linked GAMIVO Definitive key should be assessed for the Definitive game itself.

Which key should a new player check?

For a new player who wants the expanded features, start with the exact Definitive Edition listing. The original key is a distinct, older edition that may matter to collectors or someone intentionally comparing builds; it is not an upgrade path. Both GAMIVO listings are labelled PC Steam keys, but a Global label alone does not settle every country's account eligibility.

Check the edition name, seller, activation instructions and final checkout price on the live product page. Steam's published Definitive PC minimum includes 4 GB RAM and 11 GB storage; its historical Windows 7 line must be considered alongside the current Steam client's Windows 10-or-later requirement.
