MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls — Teams, Modes and Edition Choices
What 4v4 actually means, which modes work offline, and what Digital Deluxe adds to the base fighting game.
Quick answer
Tōkon's 4v4 means two opposing players controlling teams of four characters—not an eight-player match. Offline modes include Episode, local Versus and Training. Online play requires a PlayStation account, including on PC. Digital Deluxe adds a post-launch character-and-stage pass plus lobby extras.
Four characters are a team, not four human teammates
PlayStation's explanation distinguishes team size from player count. Matches begin with two characters available; the remaining teammates can be unlocked through match events. The team-building decision is about character combinations, rather than arranging eight people for a session.
Traditional and quick inputs are offered. That gives you a control choice, not a guarantee that mastering matchups or team combinations will be effortless. Training and Character Guides are useful places to evaluate the controls before centring your purchase on ranked play.
Offline sessions or online opponents?
The official mode list includes offline Episode, local Versus, Training and All Star Arena. Online Lobby, Private Rooms and Ranked/Casual matches require connectivity and a PlayStation account. PS5 online play also requires PlayStation Plus; do not apply that console subscription requirement to PC.
For two people sharing a screen, local Versus is the relevant feature. For friends on PC and PS5, PlayStation advertises crossplay. A large lobby capacity is not the number of players fighting in one match.
Standard, Deluxe or Ultimate?
Steam explicitly lists the base game in Digital Deluxe. It adds the Year 1 Characters and Stage Pass—four characters and one stage delivered post-launch—and Howard the Duck/Cosmo lobby extras. Ultimate adds character outfits and colour unlocks on top.
The practical question is whether you want future roster additions or the extra cosmetics. A pass purchase does not mean all its future content is already available. Avoid counting expired preorder rewards as a present entitlement.

Digital Deluxe offer: country restriction matters
The retrieved YUPLAY Digital Deluxe page lists Steam and limits its listed activation countries to Canada and the United States. Do not treat that as a worldwide key. Check the current country list and delivery terms before choosing it.
