Diablo IV — Gameplay, Solo Play, Online Requirements and PC Specs
Campaign or repeatable loot progression? Understand Diablo IV's activities, solo-online distinction and published PC tiers before choosing a package.
Quick answer
Diablo IV combines a solo-or-co-op campaign with dungeon runs and loot-driven character progression. Playing solo does not mean playing offline: Steam requires an internet connection and Battle.net account. Decide whether you want the story, continued build progression or both, then compare packages separately. This is a researched overview, not a tested build recommendation.
Campaign first, or a character to keep developing?
The Steam description separates the campaign from an endgame of bosses, dungeons and loot. That gives you two different reasons to play: following the story and continuing to develop a character afterwards.
Blizzard's developer explanation describes choosing skills and finding gear that enhances or changes them. The practical appeal is experimenting with combinations, not only collecting a higher number. Ask yourself whether changing a character's setup sounds enjoyable in its own right. If you mainly want a story with an ending, assess that goal separately from the prospect of repeated gear hunting.
Can you play solo—and can you play offline?
Steam describes solo and co-op campaign play, but also requires an internet connection and a Battle.net account. Solo describes who you play with; it is not an offline mode.
For a player who needs a game during unreliable connectivity, that distinction comes before price or edition. For playing with friends, agree on the intended content and account setup before purchasing. Do not use the single-player feature label as evidence that you can disconnect and continue.

Make a play plan before choosing an edition
A useful first goal is more specific than getting everything: experience the campaign, develop a character, or join friends for particular content. Start there and compare the package against that goal and what your account already owns.
The separate base-game, expansions and Platinum guide handles the purchase decision. Its Nintendo Switch 2 offer is not a PC licence, so use the platform labels rather than treating every Diablo IV button as interchangeable. Returning players also have a dedicated realm-and-season checklist in the guide library.
