Platform comparison
Helldivers 2: PC vs PS5 — Which Platform Fits You?
Compare Helldivers 2 on PC and PlayStation 5 by controls, performance targets, online requirements, subscription cost, cross-play, progression, and where your squad already plays.

Quick answer
Choose PC if you want keyboard-and-mouse controls, configurable graphics settings, and no PlayStation Plus requirement. Choose PS5 if you want a fixed console target, DualSense features, couch-friendly setup, or access through PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium while it remains in the catalog. Cross-play means PC and PS5 friends can still squad up, but progress does not transfer between platforms.
Start with the squad, not the graphics menu
Helldivers 2 is an online co-op game built around four-player squads, repeated missions, shared objectives, and a live galactic war. Platform choice matters, but it matters less than in many multiplayer games because cross-play lets players on supported platforms team up together.
That makes the practical decision more personal: which controls you prefer, whether you already pay for console multiplayer, what hardware you own, and where you want your progression to live.
PC gives you more control over performance and input
The PC version is the flexible choice. You can use keyboard and mouse or a controller, tune graphics settings for your hardware, and choose the display target that makes sense for your system. Sony's published PC targets range from 1080p at lower settings on older hardware through higher-resolution targets on stronger GPUs.
That flexibility is useful, but it also means performance depends on your actual PC. Before buying, compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage against the current official requirements instead of assuming any recent gaming laptop or desktop will deliver the same experience as a console.
- Keyboard-and-mouse or controller input.
- Adjustable graphics and resolution targets.
- No PlayStation Plus subscription required for PC online play.
- Performance varies with your hardware and settings.
PS5 is the simpler fixed-hardware option
PS5 removes most hardware decision-making. You buy the console version and play on a known target, with DualSense vibration and trigger effects supported. That is attractive if you want to get into missions without thinking about GPU tiers, driver settings, or PC graphics menus.
The trade-off is the console online requirement. PlayStation lists PlayStation Plus as required for online play. As of August 2026, Helldivers 2 is also included in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog, which can change the value calculation if you already subscribe.
Cross-play works, but cross-progression does not
Cross-play is the important good news: Helldivers 2 supports play across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, so the platform you buy does not need to isolate you from friends on another supported system.
Progression is different. Arrowhead states that there is no cross-buy, cross-save, or cross-progression. If you move from PS5 to PC or another platform, your progression, DLC, and account-specific items do not carry across. That makes the first platform choice more important if you expect to invest heavily in Warbonds or long-term progression.
- Cross-play: yes across current supported platforms.
- Cross-buy: no.
- Cross-save/cross-progression: no.
- A second platform requires a separate purchase or entitlement.
Xbox now exists too, even if this comparison is PC vs PS5
Helldivers 2 is no longer only a PC-and-PlayStation decision. Xbox Series X|S joined the supported platform list in August 2025. If your regular squad is on Xbox, include it in the buying decision rather than choosing between PC and PS5 in isolation.
For someone deciding specifically between PC and PS5, the simplest rule is still useful: pick PC for flexibility and input choice; pick PS5 for a fixed console experience and PlayStation ecosystem benefits. Cross-play keeps the squad connected, while the lack of cross-progression means your long-term account investment stays tied to the platform you choose.
